Here’s another fun interview on the making of RUIN. This time by the folks over at 3dworld.com
A few weeks ago I attended a Los Angles Modo User Group meeting and showed an incomplete version of RUIN.
I’m slightly embarrassed by myself here (is that how I sound?), but some people may find it interesting.
We chatted about a few shots in particular and the challenges they presented along with some specific techniques pertaining to Modo. Then the conversation moved to more broad notions on filmmaking and my various inspirations.
The sound isn’t the greatest, but we did the best we could.
Big thanks to Yazan Malkosh from 9b Studios for recording the event and making it available. Also, thanks to Scott Robertson and Neville Page for opening up their shop to us.
More info on the event along with the other presenter’s demos, HERE.
When RUIN first released, I got a call from Paul Hellard from www.cgsociety.com
We talked about the making of RUIN. Here’s the article.
SNAPSOUND and I visited Monkeyland Audio to do the final theater mix. Here’s a little snippet.http://www.conceptruin.com
We gathered up some friends, called in a few favors, and drove out to a desolate road in Palmdale to record hours worth of bike sounds for RUIN. I was there shooting video with a 5D, and SnapSound guys cut a cool little video.
More will come now that I’m finished with the short. This video demonstrates the “auto-rig” I made in Lightwave. Everything you see there is basically procedural motion, using noise channels and the like. It was a quick way for me to add life without having to touch every frame of the piece.
This is the first post of the dedicated site for RUIN. I’m going to keep it simple. A single page to watch the shorts, for credits of the artists, and a place to check out news and some ongoing making-of-type stuff for anyone interested. Cheers!
