Q&A on RUIN at the LAMUG

March 18, 2012 |  by  |  Making

A few weeks ago I attended a Los Angles Modo User Group meeting and showed an incomplete version of RUIN.

I’m slightly embarrassed by myself here (is that how I sound?), but some people may find it interesting.

We chatted about a few shots in particular and the challenges they presented along with some specific techniques pertaining to Modo. Then the conversation moved to more broad notions on filmmaking and my various inspirations.

The sound isn’t the greatest, but we did the best we could.

Big thanks to Yazan Malkosh from 9b Studios for recording the event and making it available. Also, thanks to Scott Robertson and Neville Page for opening up their shop to us.

More info on the event along with the other presenter’s demos, HERE.

  1. Excellent work. I listened to the LAmUG account as well. Most impressive and very inspiring, as ell as enlightening on a number of subjects. You’ve inspired me to attempt a project of my own although It won’t be as ambitious as yours.

  2. wow !! nice making!! but wacht out with the sound it is so loud in some moments

  3. This is great! I love the process, letting it flow and figure it out as you go, only creating what you need. Really incredible work! No storyboard at all or was it really all in your head? The individual shots I mean. I made a short also (not nearly as complex as yours) and treated it the same way. Wish I had a background in film like you. Mine is in architecture, which serves me well, but just a different view. Would love to start getting to film though.

Really inspired to hear you did most things the hard way, all by YOURSELF with few resources AND in stereo. Keep up great work! Thanks for sharing and inspiring. Full length!!
